Mediacove are thilled to welcome KicFM (Kids in Communication) to City of Wolverhampton College’s Paget Road Campus!

KicFM is an online radio station for young people. They give young people a voice through media training. It is pretty hard to miss their bright yellow trailer which is located on the staff car park, next to Music C16/17 and the Nursery.

The Kic FM team are:

They also work with a range of volunteers and hope to broadcast into schools from our campus.

Group Two in Florence

Our first group of media and music students have now completed their two week placement in Italy. The programme is funded by the Leonardo da Vinci programme and managed by Mediacove Productions & Training, City of Wolverhampton College. 

Our first group of Leonardo da Vinci participants spent a fortnight in the beautiful city of Florence. Work placements varied from photography and video for media production companies to journalism placements with local Florentine newspapers.

Now that they are back in the UK our second group of Leonardo da Vinci participants have followed in their footsteps. The second group are studying art & design and performing arts courses at City of Wolverhampton College and are now putting their  talents to practice in Florence.

Here in the Mediacove office we’re pretty impressed with some of their work placements which include interior design & exhibitions, dancing & acting,  fashion photography & design and gallery work.

First Light have created an opportunity for 18-25 year olds who have an interest in beginning a career in documentary production. First Light are also giving participants the opportunity to work with experienced professionals.

The documentary training will be for three days starting on Monday 28^th May and ending Wednesday 30th May. It will be free for 18-25 year olds through First Light and The Grierson Trust.

If so, come along to our Social Media Workshop on Wednesday 6 June, 10am-4pm. This one day course is aimed at simplifying social media and helping small businesses and organisations thrive online.

Social Media Consultant, Mar Dixon will be running the workshop. She will be your guide to the major social networking platforms including Twitter and Facebook. You’ll also get an insight into some as of the new and emerging networks. You’ll learn the basic rules and etiquette that apply before considering how your organisation stands to benefit.

The workshop is not about a one size fits all approach to social media. The focus will be on finding the right approach for you and your organisation – even down to making sure the right people have the right responsibilities.

Mar will give you advice and support in establishing a strong online identity and building relationships with potential customers. She’ll also give pointers on creating and sourcing engaging content.

The workshop is ideal for small business owners, freelancers and marketers not already familiar with the social media landscape.

Our two-day Introduction to Video Production course will give you the skills that you need to shoot, edit and upload your own quality video content. You’ll create your own short promotional video, ready to upload and embed on your website

The course will be delivered by an experienced camera operator and editor. On day one you will be introduced to essential video equipment before being guided through the basics of camera operation. You’ll learn the fundamental rules of shooting digital video before applying them to some fun and practical activities.

Day two will begin with an introduction to editing using iMovie and Premiere. You will discover how to make the most of your footage by adding transitions, music and simple on screen graphics. The final session will look at exporting and uploading video for use online.

You will gain hands-on experience of all aspects of video production as well as plenty of ideas for applying your new skills. Your tutor will share some professional tips of the trade and show you how to achieve a polished finish for your videos.

Students from the Cavan Institute in Dublin, Ireland have entered and have made it to the final short listings in the Dare2bDrinkAware film and multimedia competition 2012.

Eleven film and multimedia projects – produced by students from throughout Ireland – have been shortlisted for the 2012 competition, including the following four projects from Cavan Institute:

Teaming up with the YMCA, Mediacove are currently working with a group of young people currently living in sheltered housing to produce a short documentary exploring some of the key issues that they face and telling the story of what life is like living in a hostel.

Filming took place at Badger Court Foyer on Saturday 17^th March and the Mediacove team went along to assist the young people with the filming. All of the team got fully involved in the production and each individual took on a different role during the filming.

The film is currently in the process of being edited by the young people and will feature shots from around the accommodation as well as personal interviews from the young people and staff talking about their own personal experiences.

Students team building exercise

City of Wolverhampton College students are embarking on a great opportunity to work in Italy for two weeks.

The first group fly out on Saturday 31st March with group two following on Saturday 14th March.

Preparation for there journey have been underway with the students having  a special Italian meal at the Academy Restaurant and attended team building, language and cultural training.
