MUSIC

Students gain knowledge in all aspects of music production including recording and mixing, radio production in terms of recording, editing and transmission, TV camera and editing skills, and live production techniques. These production skills are supplemented by the principles and applications of technology used in production. Former students are employed in recording studios, TV and video studios, production houses, post-production and live music.

The courses include BTEC National Certificates in Music Technology and Media Production designed specifically for 16-19 year olds with progression to music courses at university.

Music Technology - BTEC National Certificate in Music Technology

Students interviewing Noddy HolderThis is a two-year full-time course, ideal for anyone who is thinking of a career in one of the many aspects of the music industry, including studio engineering and production as well as computer based music production.
Comprising of two fully equipped recording suites, you will have access to 24 track digital formats, supported by a keyboard/computer MIDI suite.

Entry Requirements:
Four GCSEs at grade C or above (including English Language) a basic understanding of music theory (grade 2) as well as an active interest in Music Technology.

Course Content:
The course comprises core units such as:

Sequencing and MIDI, sampling, recording techniques, introduction to music technology.

In addition there are units in music production, media, music awareness, music composition and the music business.

Assessment:
Your progress will be continually assessed throughout the two years through a series of assignments, projects and practical exercises in each area of the course. Core units are externally assessed.

Progression/Next Step:
Your BTEC National Certificate will help you to pursue a career in the music industry or to progress onto Higher Education.

The course is full time and held at the Paget Road Campus.

Singing NCFE - Performing Skills

This qualification aims to help those starting out in their careers to acquire and develop fundamental practical skills. The qualification focuses on candidate's performance ability and developing critical awareness.

Who is the qualification for?

The Intermediate Certificate is designed for candidates who may be interested in working in the performance industry. This qualification is intended to provide progression to, but not overlap with, NVQs and GNVQs in related areas. In contrast to Intermediate GNVQs NCFEs intermediate Certificate in Performing Skills can be delivered through part time study, with emphasis on general performance skills.

Entry Requirements:
A keen interest in Vocal Training and Performance. It is important that you attend the TWO weekly sessions allocated for this course (Monday and Wednesday evenings).

Course Content:

Unit Summaries

Unit 01 - Employment and training within the entertainment industry. This unit provides an opportunity to look at specific training and employment opportunities within the entertainment industry.

Unit 02 - Develop Technique. This is an opportunity to develop the practical skills required for the chosen art form. Including posture, breathing, vocal training, live performance etc.

Unit 03 - Rehearse and Perform. This unit develops the understanding and effectiveness of rehearsal processes's and performance skills and discipline.

Assessment:
External assessment - each candidate is required to take part in rehearsing performance which will be assessed by an NCFE External Moderator. Also coursework, portfolio and recorded evidence. Qualification : Intermediate Certificate in Performance Skills Level 2.

Progression/Next Step
On completion of this programme you can progress onto the BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts or the National Certificate Music Technology.
