Trainee journalists launch student magazine

Budding journalists from the City of Wolverhampton College have just launched a glossy magazine for fellow students.

The new publication, which is called U Magazine, features news, features and reviews plus an interview with Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray.

It has been produced entirely by students working on a full-time course accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists.

Editor Becky Hayes said: 'It's been a lot of fun and a great deal of hard work but we're all really pleased with the finished result. I just hope that fellow students will enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it together."

The magazine, which is self-financing, has an initial print run of 5,000. It will be published once a term.

NCTJ tutor Sue Green said: "It is helpful for our students to be given the opportunity to work on their own initiative and experience the practical side of producing publications to deadlines."

The college also runs a day release course for trainee journalists employed on newspapers all over the Midlands
