Students Learn the Need for Speed Students from Sandwell College's photo imaging department became the first in the country to get a demonstration of one of the hottest new products in the photographic industry. The Fotostation, which allows photographs to be snapped from one location and transmitted to a computer miles away in a matter of seconds, was developed by Andy Kolczak a former Sandwell College student. |

“Using a Nikon D2H camera, it is possible to relay images to a nearby laptop computer, which in turn can be connected to the Internet using a Satellite Phone. I can then relay the images automatically to a web site. The total time from click to Internet is less than 90 seconds. No college has ever seen this in action before.” The technology, which uses a satellite phone to communicate pictures was first tested at the Rally of Great Britain last year, when action shots were beamed more than 40 miles to the press centre. During the demonstration at the college's West Bromwich campus students took a variety of shots and were able to see tbeir pictures online almost immediately.
