Photographers snap up big prizes

Four photography students snapped up £150 of prizes in a contemporary photography competition organised by City of Wolverhampton College.

Winning photographer, Richard Foot aged 27 from Shrewsbury, a first year HNC Photography student at the college produced a series of gritty urban documentary style images, celebrating old and contemporary architectural designs in Wolverhampton.

The standard of all the entries was extremely high which made the judging all the more difficult”, reported Angie Took, Director of the Wolverhampton City Centre Company (WCCC).

WCCC sponsored half the prize fund with the college chipping in the balance. The brief was to produce a set of four contemporary images of Wolverhampton with a view to the winning images being exhibited in the offices of the WCCC and also used to illustrate a variety of publications produced for the City.

Faculty Director, Simon Larson, said “I am delighted with the excellent response to the competition with so many tremendous entries - a high degree of creativity was demonstrated by all the photographers”.

Richard produced a stunning portfolio of images showing careful consideration of composition and creative angle”, said lecturer Jayne Evans, the competition organiser.

The winning images are on show at the College until March 2004 and many of the entries can be found on the college Web Site - www.wolverhamptoncollege.ac.uk or at www.mediacove.com.
