Employers sound out college recording studios

Experts from the world of media and education were given a tour around state-of-the-art recording studios at Sandwell College 's Smethwick campus.

And they were treated to live performances and recordings made by students.

The event was hosted by Wolverhampton and Sandwell Media CoVE, (Centre of Vocational Excellence) based at The City of Wolverhampton College and Sandwell College .

The CoVE holds regular forums for employers in the world of media to give them a chance to find out about developments in vocational training.

Pictured l-r are John Airey, director of corporate development at Sandwell College and performing arts student Danni Jayes, aged 17, from Blackheath.Members of the forum were also told about a new SKY TV channel linked to the country's eight media CoVEs, which will broadcast students' programmes and films.

Students at Wolverhampton and Sandwell Media CoVE, will benefit from the move and get the chance to have their material broadcast nationally.

Pete Whitehouse, Wolverhampton and Sandwell Media CoVE co-ordinator, said: “The new TV channel is an amazing opportunity for all students at the eight media CoVEs located around the country, including ours.

“The TV channel project co-ordinator Dawn Simpson has already seen some of the innovative programmes produced at the Smethwick campus TV studio, which she said were exactly the sort of thing they would be looking to broadcast.”
