Snooker-ace visits college radio station

Midlands ex snooker-ace, Carl Payne, visited City of Wolverhampton College’s radio station this morning (27 April) to talk about his sporting past and singing career.

Morning show presenter Kay Hall, aged 30, from Wednesfield, asked Carl to come on to her Tuesday morning show to find out more about his 8-year snooker career and his appearance on Stars in Your Eyes as Rick Astley.

Carl, aged 33, from Cheslyn Hay, entertained listeners with his impressions of Ronan Keating, Marti Pellow and Rick Astley.

Kay, who is a volunteer at the college radio station, was a student at the college on the City & Guilds radio course last year, said: “Carl has got so much talent it’s unbelievable, it was great to have him on the show and I hope his singing career really takes off.

Kay’s show is aired on WCR 1350am on Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 10 and 12. She is also involved in presenting a programme for Radio WM on Sunday evenings.

Wolverhampton Community Radio is a student radio station broadcasting to City of Wolverhampton College. Its chief goal since 1986 has been to bring quality and diversity to the radio medium, providing training in basic radio skills and giving local people access to radio.
