| Media Employers Meet at SP/ARK
The local media Employers' Forum held its fourth, and most successful meeting yet, last night (25 March).
The forum, which was set up in order to bring real world experience to media training in the Black Country, met at the Wolverhampton Science Park’s SP/ARK, a business incubator dedicated to the creative industries.
The forum was set up as part of the Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) for media, music and journalism between City of Wolverhampton College and Sandwell College.
CoVE Co-ordinator, Pete Whitehouse said: "This was an excellent venue for our meeting. The centre has been set up to ensure that the effort we are putting into training and educating future media professionals is not lost to the region. Many graduates from these areas move away to London and other cities, when they are essential for the future of this region.”
The meeting was chaired by BBC Radio Producer, Lawrie Bloomfield, and was attended by media and creative professionals from across the West Midlands.
The Creative Industries Centre is a £7.1 million project which has been funded by Advantage West Midlands, the European Regional Development Fund and Wolverhampton Science Park Ltd.
The Centre has been running for just over 6 months and houses some of the best up-and-coming creative talent in the area.
The Centre of Vocational Excellence forms a Black Country learning hub with high-quality technical facilities for training in journalism, sound engineering, music technology, moving image and photography.
