WCR FM starts on 101.8 FM this week at 6am Friday 30th March New sounds across the airwaves this week…… After a long 21-year campaign to establish a community radio station for Wolverhampton, this week sees the start of the new station on 101.8 FM across the City. ‘The Voice of Wolverhampton’ will begin to provide community news, information and entertainment for the people of Wolverhampton. All this will be mixed with a broad range of music during the weekdays combined with specialist music shows in the evenings and the weekends. Programmes will be produced and presented by volunteers from the community itself. Chairman of the radio station Pete Whitehouse said, ‘WCR has established a strong reputation since 1986 as a broadcasting and training organisation. It has produced a weekly magazine show for BBC WM since 1989 and provided a 24/7 campus radio service on AM for the City of Wolverhampton College since 1999. With this track record and the excellent studios at the Newhampton Arts Centre we are confident that we will be provide the City with a truly new and exciting radio station!’ |
