This course is run in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton at Wolverhampton City Campus and Paget Road Campus of City of Wolverhampton College.
It is a 2 year, full-time or 2 to 3 year part-time course (UCAS code: P500FdA/BJour).
This Foundation Degree:
- equips you with the broad range of technical and research skills needed to work in the digital communications industry.
- Acquire digital production skills using industry-standard edit facilities and a well-equipped TV and radio studio in the University's brand new Technology Centre
- Benefit from a strong practical emphasis on production, including tasks such as producing a short news sequence, as well as professional placements with local media centres and businesses
- Opportunity to progress to courses including Digital Media, and Media and Communication Studies usually following a third year of study.
- 80-140 points including a minimum of 60 points from one or more full 6-unit awards or one full 12-unit award
- You should have GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C or above or Key Skills Communication and Application of Number at Level Two

Media ND
College Title: National Diploma in Media Production
The courses are designed for young people who wish to work in the Media Industries. The courses also provide an excellent foundation for entry into Higher Education.
The City of Wolverhampton College has been granted the Media CoVE (Centre of Vocational Excellence) status for the Creative Industries and offers its students professional production equipment and excellent teaching. Students will develop the skills needed for a wide range of media careers.
To be eligible for these courses, you should be at least 16 years of age and possess five GCSEs at grade A-C (English Language is essential) or an equivalent qualification.
All applicants need to be able to demonstrate an active interest in media production and have the necessary study skills, i.e. to be able to manage time effectively and work towards a given deadline.
By meeting these prerequisites you can show that you will be able to cope with and benefit from the course.
The Media Production courses offer a vocational qualification for students interested in becoming a part of this fast-moving, ever changing and exciting industry. We have designed the course to offer a broad base of skills relevant to the needs of local employers.
Working as part of a team the course offers the opportunity to gain practical production experience in:
- Documentary
- Music Promos
- Drama
You will learn the required production skills from developing & researching ideas, through filming to post production techniques. You will also develop skills in animation and the new media. Critical studies will enable you to develop an understanding of the media industries and how to read the media. You will also have the opportunity to develop the personal and communication skills required for a successful career.
Group B - Journalism Students - Practical Productions
Working as part of a team the course offers the opportunity to gain practical production experience in news production, factual programming and new media.
You will learn the required production skills from developing & researching ideas, through filming to post production techniques. Critical studies will enable you to develop an understanding of the media industries and how to read the media. You will also have the opportunity to develop the personal and communication skills required for a successful career.

Group C - Games Development Students - Practical Productions.
This new practical course will develop your skills and understanding of gaming, one of the fastest growing media industries. You will have the opportunity to create and develop your own games as well as acquire skills in 3D animation, digital graphics and narrative image making. You will develop the knowledge and skills that are highly sought after by both employers and universities.

You will work on assignments and practical exercises which will take the form of simulated work situations and which will develop and test your ability to solve problems on your own and also by working in a team. A period of work experience is also included.
This Level-3 qualification in Media Production will help you to pursue a career in the media industry or you may wish to progress to a degree course.
Many of our past students have successfully progressed to Universities such as Nottingham and Trent, Birmingham, Plymouth, Sunderland, Blackpool and Southampton.
