National Diploma In Media (Moving
Image)
This course is designed for young people
who wish to work in broadcasting, film/video production or other aspects
of the moving image industry. It is also an excellent foundation for
entry into Higher Education.
The City of Wolverhampton College has been granted
the Media CoVE (Centre of Vocational Excellence) status for the Creative
Industries and offers its students professional production equipment
and excellent teaching. Students will develop the skills needed for a
wide range of media careers
Entry Requirements:
To be eligible for this course, you should
be at least 16 years of age and possess four GCSEs at grade A-C (English
Language is essential) or an equivalent qualification.
All applicants need to be able to demonstrate
an active interest in digital video production and have the
necessary study skills, i.e. to be able to manage time effectively
and work towards a given deadline.
By meeting these prerequisites you can show that
you will be able to cope with and benefit from the course.
Course Content:
BTEC ND in Media (Moving Image) is a hands-on
course in digital video production. There are 18 modules during the
two year course which makes it a very intensive course that requires
students’ full commitment.
Year 1 is dedicated to gaining an understanding
of pre-production, production and post-production techniques.
Year 2 is centred on the Final Major Project – the
culmination of two years of video production training. In addition
to that in year 2 the students undertake their work experiences which
they researched and organised in Year 1.
Assessment:
You will work on assignments and practical
exercises which will take the form of simulated work situations and
which will develop and test your ability to solve problems on your
own and also by working in a team. A period of work experience is also
included.
There may also be some external examinations
set and marked by Edexcel.
Progression/Next Step:
Your BTEC National Diploma in Media (Moving
Image) will help you to pursue a career in the moving image industry
or you may wish to progress to a degree course in Media or Communication
Studies.
Many of our past students have successfully
progressed to Universities such as Nottingham and Trent, UCE, Sunderland,
Blackpool and Southampton
Costs:
This course is free as a full-time student. The
purchase of some course materials is required i.e.
- computer disks
- audio tapes
- video tapes etc
The course is full time and held at the Paget
Road Campus.
